Welcome 2024

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him” Psalm 37:7a

2023 was a year of many surprises… both good and some not what we expected because I truly feel that God does not send us bad surprises but instead they’re just not always what we are expecting. We closed the year with very good energy in the ministry and also in our lives.

Goodbye 2023, welcome 2024!

To finish the year with the children and their families, we carry out an activity to remember why Christmas is celebrated. We did crafts, played different games, and ate a delicious pizza, but the best part was seeing the children’s mothers play with so much freedom, doing the crafts as if they had never colored in their lives, and enjoying the moment. In addition to all the time we spent together, we gave them a Christmas food basket so they could have something delicious during Christmas time. We love seeing that everyone has that energy to be children and be able to enjoy each one of the activities… and I have to say that I am going to miss my kids a lot during this season.

We also had our annual cookie sale to raise funds. Although it was not what we expected, we were able to raise something to cover for the electricity throughout this year. Thanks to all who supported us!

Ready and trusting in His will

As we mentioned in our previous newsletter, we had to postpone the surgery for financial reasons. We spent the rest of November and December saving and we also truly thank all the people who supported us financially to be able to reach our goal, which we did.

Now that we had that part covered, it was time to wait for the time to come. The surgery is scheduled for this January 19, 2024 at noon, so we ask if you could join us in prayer so that God guides the doctors’ hands and do everything planned.

We were still looking for someone to be at Semillitas during this time but unfortunately we couldn’t find the right person, but we are hopeful that soon there will be another person helping at Semillitas. Even so, we have decided to close Semillitas for the next 6 months since I will not be allowed to drive during that time, much less do any type of activity and we truly feel that it is a good time for my body to fully recover and return to 100%.

The truth is that this decision made me very sad because I know how much the kids are going to miss me and I’ll miss them, and the thought that I was going to be on pause (knowing myself) caused me a lot of anxiety. Sometimes I forget how much God knows me, cares for me, and the surprise was that when I spoke with the director of IMN (Independent Missionary Network) he offered me an opportunity to work in missions even though I am not physically there. I will be supporting them in the media area, and from afar in the hospitality area for the teams that will come on March. Although it may seem not much, it just like one friend said not long ago “maybe now it’s time to receive and not give as much as you’re used to”.

So, as we said before, we ask that you please join us with these prayer requests for this season in our lives:

  1. Wisdom and a lot of calm for the group of doctors when performing the surgery.
  2. Peace to Oscar and me during and after surgery.
  3. May the Semillitas kids be well during the time that we will not be with them.
